A kind hearted accountant has raised £879 in sponsorship for Guide Dogs for the Blind, by running the Berlin Marathon.

Thirty-one year old Chris Annis, a director at LB Group in Colchester, completed the gruelling 26 mile course in just four hours, 21 minutes.

Chris has his sights set on a faster time – and more fundraising – at the London Marathon in the spring. He explained, "I ran the Berlin Marathon pretty much as a warm up and I´m hoping to get myself fully fit for the London outing next year. It seemed to make sense, if I could, to help a worthy cause or charity benefit from what I was doing.

"I´ve been just overwhelmed by the support that I´ve received from friends, family and work colleagues," he added. "We do have something of a friendly rivalry going on here at LB Group: not only the Colchester office but also in Chelmsford and Stratford. So everyone was very encouraging and I´ve been fortunate in that I´ve been able to benefit such a worthy cause too."

Puppy walker, Penny Parker, who looks after the 13 week old puppy at present said, "We really appreciate every donation, large or small. Every penny will be spent on Star´s training. Like all of our guide dogs, Star will make a huge difference to the life of someone with impaired sight."
